The latest BELTA (the Brazilian Educational & Language Travel Association) Survey results from 2021 are in. The Survey measured the impact of COVID-19 on the international education sector for agents and students. In 2020, BELTA conducted the first survey on the impact of COVID-19 on the Brazilian international education sector. For the first time in 2021, it has extended its reach to all Latin American countries.

Through the Future Focus Programme (FFP) funding the Publishing Association of New Zealand (PANZ) commissioned Oreham Group to undertake research to identify priority international customers and markets to inform publishers of the specific changes that have occurred regarding buyer behaviour and demand following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic; and make recommendations on the ways publishers can innovate to improve their export capability and reach. This report contains significant education intelligence covering education systems, government and procurement processes and cultural nuances by market, market channels and access that have value for more than just the publishing community.

Education New Zealand Manapou ki te Ao has been developing a suite of international student stories as part of its ongoing work to raise awareness and understanding of the reciprocal value that international learners bring to New Zealand. This research, conducted in March 2022,  looked to understand the effectiveness of these stories and to identify opportunities and strategies to improve cut-through.

International Student Experience Survey 2021

In 2021, ENZ conducted a repeat survey of international students (the first survey was run in 2019) to find out about their experience studying in New Zealand, what is being done well, and where improvements can be made. The 2021 survey was the first since the COVID-19 pandemic began, and was also the first to include a section on students studying offshore.

IEAA Student Voices 2021

IEAA and ENZ commissioned research to better understand domestic students’ sentiments towards international students during the pandemic. This study explores the extent to which domestic students were aware of the challenges facing international students, the extent to which they provided support to international students, and whether their sentiments towards international students have shifted through the COVID-19 crisis.

Through the Future Focus Programme (FFP) funding the Schools International Education Business Association (SIEBA) commissioned Edified to write a report on international business recovery planning for New Zealand schools. This report looks at how future scenarios can prepare schools for the rebuild, how schools can work through recovery planning, what the landscape will look like coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic, what risks and opportunities exist and how digital first marketing and global citizenship can help the sector to reinvent itself. The findings of this report contain takeaways that have value for more than just the school sector.

Online Learning Rented Platform Pilot

The Strategic Recovery Plan for International Education included funding to explore and develop a digital platform to deliver online learning. Rather than building a digital platform immediately, ENZ decided to explore and prototype two models first. This report outlines one of these prototypes: a pilot programme using a rented third-party platform with a global learner base of 15 million people.
